Back in the deepest recesses of my mind, I have always had this dream. I share it with very few people, because I don’t think they really care about my dream or my purpose. The person who knows about this, they lean strong on the conservative side. And although we do disagree, much like any other relationship, we’ve come together as concerned citizens to make our community stronger, our neighbors educated, our law enforcement be given tools to protect our most vulnerable citizens. We did that. Myself, a couple additional Democrats, and one lone conservative.
So my dream is this. Besides myself, we have longtime local Democrats as well as Republicans on a stage. No worries, I have an amazing list of heavy hitter guests that I think people would want to hear from.
I know. Many of you could be moaning and groaning about one party or the other party (and wait, I will be happy to drag a couple of my Libertarian friends up on stage too!) being able to have a voice on a stage.
The whole idea behind my dream is to get people involved politically up on a stage together talking about life. We’d discuss how we got into the political world, and it would be so cool to me (and hopefully you too) to find out backstory, and hear lived experiences, and compare and contrast. I hope that my list of local people and me can share some history of local politics.
Again, you’re screaming about my list including republicans, and now wait, libertarians too? I hear you. You don’t have to attend, but I hope you do. I think we can all learn by just sitting down and having a conversation. New people can find out what’s up with their preferred party (I’m thinking tables with info for all the parties)
I am so tired. I tried to do the very best as chair of the Kitsap County Democrats. My heart hurts about some of that, but all told, I think my tenure kicked ass because I was determined and I remained that way for the most part.
I think that we need to take a whole new approach on getting involved. I’ve always been so proud of the community thing I was a part of earlier. We got that done because our community was suffering, and we put our political differences aside and made shit happen. We made that happen for our community.
Maybe we could have a question and answer session. Should this come to fruition, the first thing I’d do is ask Steve Gardner (former political reporter for the Sun, currently with the Kitsap County Auditor’s office) to emcee the event.
