Now that I’m no longer doing what I did before, I’m always thinking about things I’d like to learn and explore about as well as events I’d like to host. I think my list of events I’d like to do is a whole different post, so be looking forward to that one. Meanwhile, let’s talk some dreams I have been kicking around for a bit.
I would like to learn more about parlimentary procedure. When I had to use Robert’s Rules, I always felt like I had a good general knowledge of what I was doing. But my crowd was tough, and always to me more than anything (which, I appreciate because this is how I learned as quickly as I did). We have so many meeting participants who, like me, are working with a barely set of Robert’s Rules on board, and we’ve had leadership who gets away with so much more than me and are given a free hall pass on it.
There is a school for all of this (learning parliamentarian procedure, Robert’s Rules of Order and that) and I’d like to attend. From there with my greatly improved knowledge, I’d like to start passing that information to others, so that they can follow along with meetings and know these same basic things and feel more empowered to get up and speak and move the discussion along.
I’d also like to, once and for all, get involved in sewing and start making all the things I’ve saved along the way that I had dreams of making. I am grateful that I have friends from childhood here who are great at sewing, who know how much “lack of patience” I have and are willing to try and help me. I want to get some sewing classes under my belt too. I had so much fun in high school learning basic sewing, and I’d like to make pretty things for people.
What else? Oh, so I’ve wanted to do some painting, or at least try. My favorite medium has always been watercolors. I love how the color flows onto the paper, and you can be as abstract as you want. I am not sure I’m down for “paint and sip” unless we have a non-alcoholic sip option. I’ve never been to one of those events, so that’s a something to investigate.
I recently discovered I have a neighbor who does watercolors. She is an established artist, has her own studio out this way, and teaches classes. I was so happy to see this information. When I have my schedule better firmed up as far as projects and things I want to participate in, I’m sure I can add a couple of these things in. But for now, they are just ideas, and I’m writing them here so I can revisit this in maybe 6 months and see how far I’ve progressed, if these are even still dreams of mine, and how to move forward in seeing it happen.
